Yulia Putintseva: “In fact I was too nervous on the eve of the finals”
5 February 2017
Question: Yulia, thank you for your passion during all the tournament. What are your impressions from your first WTA titles in your career, how did you prepare and what went wrong?
Yulia Putintseva: I was too nervous on the eve of the finals, I was thinking too much. There were different thoughts. I botched the beginning of the match but after that I came back. But today Kristina was playing amazingly and showed a really great level. It means not everything depended on me today. I should congratulate her as she played a terrific match.
Q.: In my opinion the best rallies you were playing under the pressure, the first match point is a good example of it. What were you telling yourself in these decisive moments?
Y. P.: I was in a tough situation as I felt tired before the match. I had a lot of tough matches here. I couldn’t move my usual 100 %. I was trying to return deep. At match points I really relaxed and somehow put my balls in.
Q: How did you like the crowd’s support?
Y.P.: Today the crowd supported me very well. It was really pleasant. I was concentrated to fight. The spectators supported me helping to come up from the difficult moments during the match. To be honest I liked this tournament a lot. It’s a tournament of the highest level.
